    Privacy

This site counts visits with Google Analytics. It never asks who you are.

    What we do not do

No forms. No advertising tags. No tracking pixels. No fonts are loaded from another company. The only outside requests are Google Analytics and the weather check, both described below.

    Visit counts

To learn how many people use the site and which parts they read, every page loads Google Analytics. Your browser sends Google the page you viewed, the site that sent you here, your device and browser type, an approximate location worked out from your IP address, and what you do on the page, such as scrolling and following links.

Google Analytics sets cookies whose names start with _ga, so a second visit can be counted as a return visit. They last up to two years unless you clear them. We see totals and trends, never who you are. Google handles the data under its privacy policy. To opt out, block or clear cookies for this site, or install Google’s opt-out browser add-on.

Two small notes are kept in your browser while the tab is open: that you answered the 21+ question, and the last weather check. They stay on your device and are gone when you close the tab.

    The weather

The moon in the header follows the real sky over Kansas City, and to dim it on cloudy nights the page asks Open-Meteo, a free weather service, for the current conditions in Kansas City. It asks about Kansas City, never about where you are. Your browser connects to Open-Meteo directly to do that, so, like any website, Open-Meteo sees your IP address and browser type. At most once every 30 minutes; nothing else is sent. The moon's position and phase are worked out on your own device.

    Checking in

The Check in button above the wheel asks your browser for your location, and only when you tap it. Your phone compares that location with the spots' addresses on your own device. The only thing sent anywhere is the name of the spot you checked in at, which Google Analytics counts as a check-in. Your location itself never leaves your phone and is not kept. If you say no, the wheel works the same.

Each spin of the wheel is counted the same way: Google Analytics receives the name of the spot it landed on, and nothing else.

The names of the spots you check in at are kept in your browser until the crawl ends, so the wheel can favor spots close by and send you somewhere new. They stay on your device and are deleted the morning after the crawl.

There are no forms. There is nothing to sign up for and nowhere to enter your name, email or phone number.

    Hosting

The site is hosted on GitHub Pages. Like any web server, GitHub receives what your browser sends when it asks for a page: your IP address, your browser type and the page requested. GitHub uses that to serve the site and to protect it from abuse. That happens before anything on this page runs. We do not see it, and we do not keep it. It is covered by GitHub’s privacy statement.

    Links away from here

This page links out to Instagram, to Google Maps for directions, to Google Calendar when the date is tapped on an Android phone, and to each spot's Instagram, to the EZ Pedicabs website, to a text message addressed to EZ Pedicabs, and to mediabrilliance.io, the studio that built the site. Everywhere else, tapping the date makes a calendar file on your own device and sends nothing anywhere. Once you follow one of those you are on someone else’s service, under their rules and their privacy policy, not this one.

Following or tagging us on Instagram happens entirely on Instagram. We see what any account sees, and nothing more.

    If this changes

If the site ever starts collecting something, an email signup for instance, this page is updated in the same change that adds it, and the date below moves.
